A Little Bit About Me

One-sentence summary: I’m signed by the Living God, sealed by the Holy Spirit, and delivered into His Kingdom.

Longer description: Originally from Puerto Rico, I grew up as an Air Force brat and lived in Puerto Rico, Arizona, Italy, Germany, Mississippi, and Alabama (in that order).  I asked Jesus into my heart in a children’s Sunday School class on a military base in Italy.  After that I attended military, Southern Baptist, non-denominational, and charismatic churches.

I received a Bachelors in Computer Engineering from Auburn University.  After working in Auburn for a year, I moved to Houston, Texas, to work for a large computer company.

Feeling that I had nothing to offer, I slowly became involved in the single adult ministry of the church that I was attending.  I found it a privilege to serve behind the scenes doing such things as handing out announcement sheets, creating PowerPoint presentations, and taking roll.  At home, it was my joy to start studying the Bible alone and finding that Jesus is more personal than I ever thought.

In an unexpected turn of events, I began co-teaching a single adult Sunday School class for people of all ages with the single adult minister.  Taking a chance on me, he eventually allowed me to teach on my own.  The next two and a half years was an emotional roller coaster, the highs being the privilege of leading others in growing in understanding of Scripture with lows of “I don’t know what I’m doing!”

I quit teaching to prepare for my marriage to Garrett, the love of my life.  We got started on this marriage thing a little later than most, so we love every ordinary moment.  Grocery shopping, walks around the neighborhood, the search for an odor-free kitty litter…it’s all good. I started blogging to keep family up-to-date with our lives, but soon realized that I loved writing and enjoyed the outlet that blogging provided.

We welcomed our firstborn, Michael, into our family in July 2009. Parenthood is both more difficult and more wonderful than we ever imagined. After 13 years in the computer industry, I fulfilled a dream and resigned from my job to become a stay-at-home mom.

Any SAHM can tell you that it’s important to stay connected to other moms, so this blog is an effort to do just that. My intention is to share both my highs and lows, ask for advice from more experienced moms, ponder spiritual topics (with a Christian worldview), and maybe even share some of the expertise I’ve gained as a computer engineer.

Please email me if you would like more information, have any questions, or feel a need to share a great crockpot recipe.
