Siesta Scripture Memory Team

Things went pretty well with my first memory verse. It was relatively simple to memorize since I was able to pull out a couple of key words to prompt my memory.

This next one won’t be so easy, though. I’ve started working on The Mind of Christ Bible study, which involves memorizing Scripture. So I’m going to use SSMT to help me do that. The first set of verses to memorize for the study is Philippians 2:5-8:

Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. (English Standard Version)

I’ve always been fascinated by the part of this passage that states that Jesus “did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nothing”. That says so much about Jesus. Part of the temptation of humanity is the desire to be “somebody,” to be special in some way and have everyone know it. But Jesus, who is most definitely Somebody Important (to say the least), doesn’t operate that way. I’m looking forward to meditating on this passage and learning about it in Bible study.
