The last week of summer vacation is just about over for us, and it kicked me in the butt. We have a bit of a stay-cation planned for this weekend with some fun activities for the kids, but right now I’m so very tired that I’m just hoping to stay awake for All the Fun! So to keep myself in a positive frame of mind, I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite things from this past week.
Lean Cuisine Salad Additions – Southwest-Style Chicken Salad
My long-time baby weight battle has resulted in a concerted effort in tracking my calories. But I’m pretty lazy about calculating calories, so I decided to start off by purchasing pre-packaged meals like Lean Cuisines and just adding vegetables. In the frozen food aisle one day the heavens smiled upon me as I discovered Lean Cuisines Salad Additions. They’re all pretty good, but the Southwest-Style Chicken Salad is by far my favorite. It reminds me of a Southwest salad that Chick-fil-A used to sell before they lost their minds and discontinued it. I mourned that salad and am happy to have found a replacement.
I like the Salad Additions because you buy your own lettuce. I try to get the bagged shredded or chopped lettuce because I’m too lazy to cut up the lettuce myself. And now I’ve admitted that I’m too lazy to count calories AND cut up lettuce. Hmmm, I feel that I may be getting to the root of my baby weight issues.
My kids are at a super-cute age (4 and almost-2), and after the growth spurts they both had this past summer I feel like their childhood is just slipping away. I keep thinking that I need to do a better job of taking pictures of their day-to-day lives so that I have something to look at and cry over when they’re grown and living on their own. But I always forget to take pictures, and even if I did, I don’t organize them. I love that this free app reminds me to capture a moment every day, inserts the pic into a calendar, and allows me to tag it. Awesome.
Nude flat, where have you been all my life? I tend to prefer a little bit of a heel, but with a preschooler and toddler I feel like I need to be prepared to break out into a run at any moment to chase down a child attempting to get into mischief. I saw talk about nude flats online, so I decided to go ahead and try some on. I ended up with these and I LOVE them. I feel like they dress up every outfit, from shorts to rolled up jeans. They’re also very comfortable, even in Houston where August often feels like the surface of the sun. Seriously, I had concerns about foot sweat, but the little holes in the shoe seem to provide enough ventilation to avoid that. (Is that TMI? It was, wasn’t it?)
MAC Studio Finish Concealer
I have some serious under-eye circles. Really, I look like I got into a fist-fight and took a punch in both eyes. I’m always on the hunt for a good opaque under-eye concealer, so I stopped by the MAC counter at Macy’s one day. I’ve been pretty happy with this one so far and feel like it really makes a difference in my appearance.
What are your favorites from this past week? I always love recommendations!
