Hi, I’m Leslie! I’m wife to one funny and talented guy (seriously, the man sings like an angel), and a homeschooling mom to three ACTIVE little boys. When I’m not washing dishes or managing the chaos, I’m introverting and geeking out on whatever has caught my interest at the moment.
Geeking out on my favorite topics has become a way of life for me. You see, I’m a geek by personality (melancholy and INTJ), education (Bachelor of Computer Engineering from Auburn University, Summa Cum Laude, University Honors Scholar, National Merit Scholar), and trade (13-year career in the computer industry, primarily working as a systems engineer). After leaving the computer industry to become a stay-at-home mom, I found myself looking for outlets to satisfy my inner geek. I’ve found geek outlets in learning a new programming language, reading books, studying Scripture, and, most recently, homeschooling.
As a matter of fact, homeschooling has turned out to be one of my most intellectually satisfying endeavors. As a homeschool rookie, I’ve spent hours upon hours reading books, scouring the internet, and watching videos on homeschool-related topics such as teaching methodologies, educational spaces, curricula, learning styles, daily routines, organization….and more! I will be eternally grateful to the experienced homeschool parents that took the time and energy to pour out their hearts and knowledge into equipping strangers, enabling our family’s first year of homeschooling to go relatively smoothly.
On Geek Mama I share the story of my transformation from engineer into homeschooling mom as I struggled to remain true to my personality, my family’s specific needs, and my faith. My hope is that I help a new homeschooling mom in the same way that others helped me – by sharing the nitty gritty of our homeschool story with others.
On Geek Mama you’ll find posts about why we chose to homeschool, how we created a learning space, how we organize our days, resources that have been helpful to us as newbie homeschoolers, curriculum reviews, and more!
