My little nephew was finally born last night at 1:03 AM. He’s a beautiful boy, which I would love to prove with a picture, but I forgot to ask the parents for permission to post one. So you’ll just have to take my word for it.
I stayed up last night waiting for news of the little one’s birth. My brother texted a picture of his firstborn and I just stared at it. There’s something about seeing a much loved family member for the very first time. I was so excited that I stayed up for a while and then called my mom to get more details. And then I stayed up a while longer. Despite the fact that I have my own little one that wakes up no later than 7:30 in the morning. I knew I would be hurting today.
And I was right. This morning I hurt very badly and got one of those exhaustion headaches. My son, on the other hand, had all the energy in the world and set out to destroy my house. I present to you Exhibits A and B.
You should see what he did to the sofa.
But I let him have his fun because he would be trapped in a car seat or stroller later in the afternoon while we visited his new little cousin. I also texted my brother one of these pictures so that he would know what he has to look forward to.
I’m so happy for my brother and sister-in-law. They’ll be fantastic parents.

Congratulations on the birth of your nephew! As the mother of a 13 week old baby I know exactly what you mean. It’s difficult when excited to wind down enough to sleep even though the rational mind is saying please sleep as baby will be full of beans in the morning. Our daughter has done very well at adapting to life outside the womb and generally sleeps at least 8 hours a night now.
Thanks! My son is sleeping 11-12 hours a night now, which is awesome. I miss him when he goes to bed, but we need that time for our sanity!
